Dual Diagnosis is an underground hard-core hip-hop duo who made their professional recording debut in 2020 with the album The Intake. That record introduced two brothers from New Jersey with a taste for hard beats and heavy metal thunder. Mad Mike and Paulie Walnutz first started making beats and writing rhymes together for nearly 20 years.
Since their debut, Dual Diagnosis have connected with fans around the world on popular tracks like “Mad Man”, released earlier this year. They’ve also dropped some high-profile collabs with the likes of Slaine, Gorilla Voltage, and UnderRated. Lyrically, they pair their rock-infused hip-hop with a focus on mental health, trauma, and healing.
Nature of the Beast is the brand new EP from Dual Diagnosis, available worldwide via all major streaming services. The six-song set delivers a dark and powerful message about resilience and self-awareness. The record marries Dual Diagnosis’ hard driving beats with a lyrical exploration of facing one’s demons.
From the dark and demonic “Intro” to and the introspective “The Edge,’ the EP dissects the raw emotions associated with mental illness and healing. On the title Track, Mad Mike offers violent fantasies, adding a big drill energy to the track’s grungy riff-rock groove. He continues that vibe on other tracks, like the angry anthem “Harsh”.
Mad Mike turns his aggression inward on psychologically complex tracks like “Patient on the Run” and “Murder One”. Each track adds a new twist to the Dual Diagnosis rap/metal mix. “The Edge” closes the record on a slightly more subdued vibe.
