Fred Haring is a veteran recording artist who returned to the music world in 2023 after a years-long hiatus. The Mansfield, Ohio native made his recording debut back in 1996 with the album Ghosttowns and Kingdoms. That record introduced an insightful singer-songwriter with a sound built on equal parts rock, folk, and Americana. Two more albums followed, This Grand Parade (1999) produced by Georgia Satellites front man Dan Baird, and Every Reason That Doesn’t Matter (2002).Â
During this time, Fred Haring toured the US with bands like The Vigilantes of Love and Caedmon’s Call. He even toured Holland and Germany in the spring of 2001. Ultimately dissatisfied with his third album’s performance, Haring retired from music. He released just one song in the ensuing two decades before returning last year with the track “God Plays a Long Game”.
“Mansfield Memory” is the brand new single from Fred Haring, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 29, 2023. A solo accordion opens the track, introducing a Celtic-tinged Appalachian melody. An Americana ensemble of bass, drum, banjo, and guitar enters the mix as guest vocalist Jesse Powers steps to the mic. An ethereal flute paints the periphery as she and Haring trade verses in a wistful and melancholy folk anthem about the fading memories of youth.
