Friday Dies Drop 30-Year Hammer Down

Friday Dies first fired up their Marshall amps back in the red-hot metal scene of the late 1980s. For more than a decade they dropped a string of well-received demos as well as the commercially released full-length LP Return of the Witch. By the end of the 90s the band broke up, its members each finding his own niche in the music industry.

Fast forward a couple of decades. Band leader Mark Friday is still a working musician, and a dad. When his son finds a box of his old band’s CDs, it lights a spark that ultimately leads to a band reunion. Last year, Friday Dies began releasing some of their favorites from the 90s. The singles function as teasers for the brand new material the band is currently recording at Trax 52 Studio in Mequon, Wisconsin.

“Hammer Down” is the latest reissued single from the newly revived Friday Dies. The track was released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 20, 2024. A Sabbath-inspired humbucker riff opens the track and remains the song’s melodic and rhythmic anchor as the beat drops on a slow and heavy groove. On the mic the singer offers classic metal howls and a dark, fantasy narrative.
