Tym On’s Cool Cinematic Psychedelia – Think

Regular readers of The Static Dive will recognize the name Tym On. He first appeared on these pages earlier this month to showcase his single “Lost and Found” from his debut album “Tymon Space (Deluxe). We also learned of the Detroit rapper’s interesting journey from graphic artist to songwriter and music producer.

Since making the leap into music, Tym On has been very productive. In addition to the album, he has released a number of singles and an EP this year. “Think” is the third song from the artist’s “Wut” EP. On the track, we once again find him dipping into Rap, Trap and psychedelia to further define his signature sound.

Musically, “Think” is a dark and dramatic track that mixes Trap beats and Synthwave instrumentation. The bass line shifts from piano to a series of synth tones, all playing a low minor key drone.  808 drums and a cinematic retro synth melody set an ominous tone. Lyrically Tym On paints verbal images. Rather than tell a direct narrative he sets a mood with a guttural delivery, circular rhymes and trippy delay effects. It is a cool, dark sound.
