Bam(DaBeast) And An Opp Eater Protect The Throne

We first heard from Bam(DaBeast) just a few weeks ago upon the release of his single “Official.” With that song the St. Louis rapper introduced us to his insightful and authentic take of gang life. Having done time himself, he knows where playing the game can get you. On the track he gives advice but doesn’t get preachy. He is keenly aware of the realities that young black men in the neighborhood are facing.

“Opp Eater” is the new single from Bam, released to all major streaming services on January 29, 2021. This time comes at life on the street through the eyes of a man forced to carry a weapon because his enemies are doing the same. ‘Opp’ in this case stands for ‘opposition.’ The song’s protagonist is no predator, but the facts outside his door dictate that he “protect the throne.”

I would describe my drill release as not your typical drill song… my lyrics are more geared towards protecting yourself and your household from “opps.” Not going out your way to find them.

Musically, “Opp Eater” is built on a dark, haunting beat. Produced by Corentin Jacquet, the track matches a minimalist Trap groove with dramatic choral female vocals in the background. The sound gives the song a gothic and cinematic feel. Meanwhile Bam drops his signature chopping rhymes. He delivers smart lines packed with metaphors in a rapid-fire delivery. Although the subject matter is serious, he still has his fun. These days, Bam’s battles are all in the virtual world. An avid gamer, throughout the track he makes references to characters in the game Tekken.
