We first heard from TRUTHR in October of last year when he dropped his single, “Something Epic.” A native of Northern California he is a talented and prolific up and coming rapper and R&B artist. Since his debut in 2016 he has released an impressive catalog of music, including over two dozen singles and a two albums. In that time he also relocated to the East Coast.
Now living and working in Virginia, TRUTHR eventually hooked up with two like-minded Hip-hop artists from Virginia Beach; Ty Pretty and Intalek. The trio knew they wanted to collaborate and got to work on the track, “Long Time”. Three years in the making, they released the song and video to all major streaming services on February 12, 2021.
“Long Time” is an emotional retrospective track. Each artist takes his turn looking back honestly on his life and career so far and asks, “is this it?” TRUTHR delivers a smooth and soulful R&B performance during the choruses as he ruminates on the path he’s taken and wonders which direction is his next step.
Intalek takes the first verse and attacks it with an impressive chopping rhyming technique. Ty Pretty is up in the next verse with a smooth, laid back old-school flow. The juxtaposition of the three different vocalists styles keeps the sound fresh throughout. The song is built on chill guitar groove over Trap beat, ambient synths and ancillary percusion paint the edges of the mix.
