Huet’s Haunting New Single “Ghosts”

Huet is the professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Spencer Huet. We first heard from the UK-based artist in January of this year upon the release of his debut single “gold.” With that song we were introduced to a talented writer and performer who had created his own unique new emotionally complex new Alt-Folk/Pop sound.

Although he only recently launched his solo career, Huet is a lifelong musician with an extensive résumé including his work in previous years with the bands ‘Northpaw’ and ‘Workhorse.’ He is originally from Guildford in the United Kingdom and now lives in Hampshire. However, he got there by way of Texas where spent much of his youth. Those intercontinental origins have influenced more than just his accent. His sound is equally inspired by UK Dark Pop acts like Amber Run and American Indie-folk from the likes of Bon Iver.

“Ghosts” is the latest single from Huet, released to all major streaming services on January 20, 2021. The song opens with the haunting sound of a lo-fi piano. Spencer enters the mix next and begins his soulful recitation of a poetic narrative loaded with imagery and metaphor. The song is an esoteric rumination on memory, fear and their impact on the life and love of the present.

As the track progresses ambient synths and a downtempo beat meet a softly strummed acoustic guitar. By the final verse, the quiet and vulnerable song has expanded beyond the horizon with lush and cinematic strings. Meanwhile, of disembodied memories and loosely associated images of love and pain, Huet sings, “”Those nights we were haunted by all we are, showed our deepest scars.“
