Moan Barrow is the new professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer, Brian Jones. After years of working with bands and as a solo artist on stage and in the studio, Jones has created this identity as a vehicle for all of his new music. He debuted the project earlier this year and has since released four singles. Although Moan Barrow is a new project, Brian has been making music his entire life. He began with piano lessons at just 8 years old. In high school he was recruited by a touring band as their keyboardist. That began a musical journey that continues to this day.
“Been Here Before” is the latest single from Moan Barrow, released worldwide to all major streaming services on May 25, 2021. Stylistically the song takes its cues from Modern Rock genres of the past four decades. After a dramatic minor-key intro featuring strings and guitars, the song kicks into a 90’s Alternative-inspired percussive acoustic/electric groove as Jones delivers a cryptic tale of paranoia and insomnia.
In the chorus, Moan Barrow introduces some 80’s Rock power chords and an AOR radio-worthy vocal howl. As the song progresses it rolls through Pop hooks, space vibes and blues riffs. The playing is excellent throughout, with some particularly nice guitar work. T-Rex riffs meet Dokken vocals and Pink Floyd-style psychedelia. Jones combines a rich mix of influences to create his own unique sound.
