B-Funk Rides Purple Waves On The New Single “No Stress”

We first heard from B-Funk in January of this year when he dropped the full length album “Cosmos.” That record introduced readers of The Static Dive to the downtempo chill and old-school Hip-hop vibes of this North Carolina resident and Los Angeles native. The talented and eclectic rapper, composer and producer mixes the classic West Coast gangsta rap grooves with smooth Funk jams and mellow chillout instrumentals.

The prolific producer drops albums with the same frequency that most artists release singles. One of the four full length LP’s he delivered in 2020 was the ten song collection “Purple Waves.” This month he shares with us the new single from that record, the laid back Funk of “No Stress.” The song rolls on a signature B-Funk groove with a great mix of mellow psychedelia and classic analog funk synths.

Over a Lo-fi old-school Boom Bap groove he drops a fun bit of Hip-hop posturing as he rhymes about the grind and the women trying to get in the way of his flow with their drama. He sums up his take on the situation with the clever refrain, “Tell your man about your problems, maybe he can go and solve them.”
