We first heard from Tom Tikka earlier this month when we featured his band The Impersonators‘ latest single and video “Scarlet Hell.” That track introduced us to a veteran singer, songwriter and guitarist from Finland with keen Pop sensibilities and a sound that draws from decades of Rock & Roll styles.
Growing up, Tom found an ear for music at a young age. The music of Paul Anka inspired him to pick up the guitar and start writing his own songs at just six years old. Later his uncle introduced him to electric guitar and the Classic Rock of bands like The Beatles and The Doors. By the time he was 21, Tom Tikka had his first record contract as a solo artist and released his debut EP under the moniker Tom Spark.
Although that first record did not find him the notoriety he sought, eventually he joined the band Carmen Gray with his brother Lappe Holopainen. That group went on to a string of successes. After signing with Sony/BMG they record three albums and an EP over the course of nine years. They enjoyed success with radio hits like “Lost In My Mind Again”, “Gates Of Loneliness” and “Life Can Be Beautiful.”
In addition to his current work with The Impersonators, the prolific songwriter has recently released new music with his solo project. “Heart’s on Fire ” is the latest single from Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps. The song tells the tale of a group of friends who, in their youth, swore to one another never to grow old. However, life took them in different directions. The protagonist sings of his friends’ bad marriages, good fortunes and jail time as he declares his own dedication to his passion. Meanwhile the track rolls on an upbeat electro-Pop groove with a mix of Rock and traditional instruments. It’s a great sound that builds to a ripping guitar solo in the bridge.
