Chancy Kaltner Rocks The New Graz Grunge

Chancy Kaltner

We first heard from Chancy Kaltner in January of this year. The Austrian singer/songwriter had just released his debut single “Don’t Forget to Rock and Roll.” With that Classic Rock inspired, Neil Young-style rocker we were introduced to an exciting new singer/songwriter embarking on a new phase of his lifelong musical journey. It is one that started with classical training in trumpet and piano and ultimately led him to Rock & Roll.

“Enemy” is the latest single from Chancy Kaltner, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 25, 2021. On his earlier single, Chancy hinted at a Grunge influence. On “Enemy,” he is all in. The song opens with a minor-key acoustic guitar and bass intro. Soon the song explodes into a Seattle-worthy wall of distorted and tremolo guitars. Kaltner is joined by a top-notch band of studio musicians from his home city of Graz. Peter Taucher (guitar), Jörg Haberl (drums) and Rafael Wiener (bass) crunch and churn through Chancy’s powerful Rock riff with a sound that lands somewhere between early Radiohead and classic Nirvana. Meanwhile the singer delivers a cryptic meditation on the human penchant for conflict.

The lyrics are an analysis of a certain facet of human behavior which consists of standing against one another often in careless, almost predestined way and even exceeding the limits of our counterpart.
