Das Vintage’s Dark New Jazz-Hop Noir

das vintage

We first heard from Das Vintage in January of this year, shortly after the release of his album “Bleeding on the Canvas.” That record introduced us to singer, songwriter, rapper, poet and producer Victor Cantu. Originally from Mexico and now based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the multi-talented artist made his debut in 2020 with the EP “Take Me.” However, this is no rookie. He arrives with a fully formed sound and an artistic vision that is years in the making.

“Bleeding in Summer” is the latest single from Das Vintage, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 7, 2021. The track is a downtempo mix of Lo-fi Hip-hop, Jazz, R&B and spoken word poetry. Opening with a jazzy bit of Speakeasy piano, the singer enters the mix delivering one side of a tragic conversation. Sounding like Bogart in a classic Film Noir scene, he greets an ex-lover who has returned to break his heart once again.

A mellow Lo-fi beat drops and the song cruises into a smokey Jazz groove. Meanwhile, Das Vintage alternates between a sleepy singing voice and a beat-poet style rap. His tale of heartbreak and romantic deceit grows darker with each verse. Ultimately, the jealous monologue becomes an act of violent revenge. It is a deeply engrossing narrative set to soulful and timeless vibe.

Check out “Bleeding in Summer” below. You can also hear the song on both the Deep Indie Beat and Deep Indie Chill playlists. The prolific Das Vintage plans to release a steady string of singles over the next 30 weeks.
