We first heard from Kidd J in January upon the release of his single “Ghost.” That song introduced us to the Southern California-based singer, songwriter and rapper Jovani Vazquez. At just 22 years-old he’s already had more than his share of hardship and heartache. He has survived everything from homelessness to substance abuse. Now the talented young songwriter is turning his pain into art.
Over the past three years Kidd J has delivered an impressive catalog of music. Since 2019 he has released ten singles and the full length album “Fell for You” in 2020. The diversely talented songwriter works with artists from around the world to create heartfelt and emotional Hip-hop, R&B and Pop music. Now he is back with his second song of 2021.
“Flashbacks” is the latest single from Kidd J, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 16, 2021. The rapper collaborated with producer Magestick on the downtempo Emo Trap tune. A melancholy piano melody opens the track. Kidd J enters the mix as the beat drops. He delivers a melodic confessional rap about his struggle trying to start a new relationship as memories of his ex continue to haunt his thoughts. He numbs the pain with drinking and drugs as he tries to explain the situation to his new love. It is a heartbreaker and immediately relatable to anyone who has tried and failed to let go of the past.
