Valerie Barrymore & Foundation Of Funk – Love Me Now

Valerie Barrymore

We first heard from singer/songwriter Valerie Barrymore in October of last year upon the release of her single “I’m Here for You.” That track introduced us to the soulful stylings of a veteran and local legend of Detroit’s original R&B and Funk scene. The song was essentially a solo track, recorded during one of 2020’s many lockdowns. However, Valerie is actually a successful band leader. For nearly twenty years she has performed with her group Foundation of Funk (FOF).

“Love Me Now” is a popular single from Valeria Barrymore and FOF. Like the singer herself, the track has entertained audiences around the world since its original 2016 release. Winning awards from New York to Los Angeles, the song has remained a staple on R&B, Funk and soul playlists worldwide.

Riding on a cool bass and drum groove, “Love Me Now” has a timeless Funk feel. A full horn section gives the tune a great organic Soul vibe. A tasteful Nile Rodgers-style guitar lays down a funky rhythm while classic electric piano chords paint the edges of the mix. At the heart of the track is Valerie Barrymore herself, dropping a soulful and bluesy lead vocal recounting a sexy seduction. The singer is supported by some smooth backing vocals and even an old-school rap break in the bridge.
