We first heard from Adi Rao in June of this year upon the release of his single “Rain Song.” That track introduced us to a multifaceted singer, songwriter and composer with international roots and a smooth multi-genre sound. Born in India and raised in the United States, Rao is an award winning and professionally accomplished musician in both countries. Since winning India’s prestigious State Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts in 2013, he has made a name for himself on stage and screen. He has worked as a backup singer for major recording artists and has composed music for film in both Hollywood and Bollywood.
“Who Are We?” is the latest single from Adi Rao, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 13, 2021. The track continues the mellow vibe the singer started with “Rain Song.” However, whereas that track took on an 80’s-style synthwave feel, “Who Are We?” rolls on a more organic downtempo R&B groove. Acoustic drum and percussion samples give the beat a bit of Trip-hop flavor. Subtle synths, hypnotic backing vocal harmonies and some tastefully placed horns paint the edges of the mix. A laid-back piano melody sets the tone as Adi delivers a soulful ode to the simple joy of two lovers spending time together.
