We first heard from Libby Phippard in September of 2020 upon the release of her debut single, “Forever.” That track introduced us to a talented and accomplished, classically trained vocalist who made the move into mainstream Pop music after making waves in the world of opera. The London-based singer/songwriter has performed as a soloist at high-profile venues such as the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the York Minster and Westminster Cathedrals in the UK.
Since her debut last year, Libby Phippard has released a total of four singles. Her earliest work was stylistically in the same vein as Alt-Folk favorites like Mumford & Sons and Hozier. However, since then the singer has branched out into some more experimental Electro-Pop territory. Her latest release represents an adventurous new genre-bending direction for the artist.
“When a Question Is Not a Question” is the brand new single from Libby Phippard, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 27, 2021. Produced by Danny Blackburn, Phippard’s fourth single mixes modern electronic Pop music with a 90’s inspired beat and some cool melodic Jazz vibes. Ed Sheeran-style percussive synths open the track and introduce the hook. Then, as a classic breakbeat rhythm lays down a nice Alt-Pop/Hip-hop groove, Libby enters the mix. A funky bass line and the cool sophistication of Libby’s voice give the track a nice Jazz feel as she delivers a post mortem on a toxic relationship in a staccato melodic rap.
It’s about distancing ourselves from those situations, about saying no anyway, completely unapologetically
