Regular readers of The Static Dive are well acquainted with Lauren Nikohl. We have followed her musical and spiritual journey since the 2020 release of the single “Grateful for This Day”. Lauren is a genre-fluid singer, songwriter and producer with a powerfully soulful voice and a passion to create meaningful change in the world through her music.
Lauren Nikohl’s music explores universal consciousness and self awareness with a unique blend of Indie Pop, Electronic/House, and Alternative Dance elements. Lyrically she finds commonality in Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist and modern mindfulness teachings and applies them to the practice of spiritually surviving and thriving in the emotional cacophony of our confused world. She reminds us that we are one with all of creation, and she wants us to see how beautiful that truth can be.
“Energy” is the latest single from Lauren Nikohl, released worldwide to all major streaming services on September 24, 2021. The track opens on an acoustic drum and analog synth beat. As the song progresses it transforms from a Rock & Roll groove into a low-key dance beat while a mix of organic and electronic instrumentation create a dreamy, psychedelic scene. Percussive synth arpeggios paint the periphery as Lauren leads us through a meditation on the nature of energy in the universe.
The song is a lesson in both physics and metaphysics. Lauren Nikohl riffs on the scientific law of conservation of energy which states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. The singer applies that logic to the energy which makes up our consciousness. This inevitably leads to an understanding of the interconnectivity of all mass and energy in the universe. It’s a smart, simple and beautiful premise delivered by an old soul with a fabulous voice and a taste for experimental retro-digital Funk.
