Hip-hop veteran Afroman came back on the scene in a big way in 2020 with his hit single “WHOLEthing.” The song was his debut release for the new Cosmic Wire record label, founded by artist and producer Jared Finck, a/k/a BLAZAR. Hip-hop and Pop fans know Afroman from his 2001 crossover smash hit “Because I Got High.” The rapper has stayed busy over the years on the festival circuit. Now he is back on the airwaves as well.

Regular readers of The Static Dive are well acquainted with BLAZAR. Over the past two years his work as an artist and producer has appeared on these pages numerous times. Currently signed to AntiFragile Music (INgrooves/Universal) under the legendary Tom Sarig (Against Me!), and published by Sarig Songs (Kobalt Publishing), with the support of Universal he launched Cosmic Wire in 2020. Since the label’s debut, BLAZAR has produced records for Afroman, Daxsen, Corey Feldman and HEwas.

“Step it UP” is the brand new single from BLAZAR and Afroman, released worldwide to all major streaming services on October 29, 2021. BLAZAR lays down a mid-tempo Electro groove that mixes Michael Jackson Pop vibes with a dose of analog synth Funk that is equal parts Thomas Dolby and Daft Punk. Meanwhile, Afroman drops a bit of motivational Hip-hop science as he lists the many ways in which we can all ‘step it up’ and upgrade our lives. It’s a fun track with an infectious hook, delivered by two seasoned pros.
