We first heard from Buenos Diaz in November of 2020 upon the release of the single “Dream.” That track introduced readers of The Static Dive to Austin, Texas native Nick Diaz. Both as the leader of his own band and as a hired-gun ace guitar player, Nick has travelled the world with his telecaster in hand. He’s played blues in New Orleans, Punk in New York City and Indie Rock around the planet.
“Dream” was one of a series of pandemic-born releases which included a handful of singles and the 5 song EP “Remember.” As the country tentatively began re-opening venue doors, Buenos Diaz hit the road. Over the past few months the band has performed at locations around Texas and will soon head into California for a few dates, COVID permitting.
On a recent day-off between gigs, the members of Buenos Diaz got together for a live, home studio recording and video of “Dream.” Filmed by Kate Hellenbeck, “Dream (Live at Bobo’s)” finds Nick Diaz (guitar, vox) joined by Greg Clifford (drums), Sam Powell (Keys) and Dana Marie (upright bass, vox) for a rocking but still dreamy take on the groovy Lo-fi Indie-Pop love song.
Dana’s bass and Nick’s guitar give the mix a cool crunch while Sam’s electric piano and Greg’s chill groove keep the tune’s feet firmly planted in the clouds. The video chronicles both the performance and its equally loose and laid-back recording session. Cars pass by as the Texas sun shines through Bobo’s windows. It is a lot of fun.
