We first heard from Clayton Sturgeon last year upon the release of his single “Bad Bad Blood,” from his second album “A Curse In Disguise.” That track introduced readers of The Static Dive to a talented and prolific young singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who keeps one foot in Country and the other in Grunge.
Clayton Sturgeon has spent a life on the road. As a child he and his family lived on a sailboat for a time. Later he would travel with his band W.E.R.M (Universal/Republic Records) and the world-touring Nirvana tribute band, NIRVANNA. The music he heard along the way has helped form his sound into a unique, hard-driving Southern Rock groove.
“Games” is the latest single from Clayton Sturgeon, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 4, 2022. The song is a bluesy romp about a deceptive lover. The singer delivers the tune in his signature Seattle meets Nashville growl.
Through the verse a sparse mix of guitars, violins and dobros lay out an ominous soundscape. In the chorus the track erupts into some arena-worthy riff-Rock. The two dynamics play well off one another and lead to a nice bit of Beatles-esque harmony in the bridge.
