We first heard from Monty and The Kraken in December of 2020 upon the release of the his debut album “Release the Kraken.” That record introduced readers of The Static Dive to a talented singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer from Atlanta, Georgia with a genre-bending sound built on a funky foundation.
A versatile singer, savvy producer and skilled instrumentalist, Monty slides effortlessly from Rock riffs to Hip-hop grooves and infectiously catchy Pop bops. Since its release, “Release the Kraken” has connected with fans worldwide and spawned the hit stoner Dance jam, “Smoke All Day.”
“Onward & Upward” is the brand new single from Monty and the Kraken, released worldwide to all major streaming services on December 30, 2021. The song is the first single from his forthcoming self-titled sophomore album. A Jazz guitar opens the track, grooving a Latin vibe over a shuffling Pop/Hip-hop beat. A saxophone dances on the periphery as Monty enters the mix, delivering a soulful love song.
He sings the praises of his lover with signature lyrical style, dropping some metaphysical romance with lines like, “I don’t know the purpose of the universe. I don’t know the mission of my soul. I only know I love you.” As the song progresses it evolves into an ethereal vibe of vocal harmonies, ambient synths and that fabulous saxophone peppering the mix with bluesy and soulful riffs.
