Regular readers of The Static Dive will remember Point Nemo. We first heard from the group in May of last year upon the release of their debut EP, “Cloud Seeding.” That record introduced us to an Alternative Rock band from Norway with a dark and melodic, guitar-driven Modern Rock sound that brings to mind bands like Muse and Tool. That’s good company.
On their latest single, Point Nemo show that their abilities are not limited to Heavy Alt/Rock. Marcus Lien Gundersen (guitar/vocals), Adrian Van Wallinga (guitar/vocals), Espen Lieng (bass) and Andreas Ursin Hellebust (drums) first came together as Point Nemo 2016. They have since maintained a busy schedule of gigging, and recording when there were no gigs. On their new track, the band takes their well tuned Rock ensemble into the world of DarkWave electronic music.
“Meet at the End” is the new single from Point Nemo, with a brand new video released March 4, 2022. An acoustic guitar and ambient synths introduce the song with a cinematic and somber, Dark Pop mood. Electronic arpeggios paint the edges of the mix as an ensemble of electric guitar, bass and drums introduce an Alternative rock vibe. Gundersen delivers an emotional performance in a deep and soulful tenor. The song opens up to a massive Modern Rock anthem in the chorus as harmonized guitars, strings and synths create a broad sonic horizon.
The song’s video features a young woman alone on a mysterious and mystical journey of self-discovery. The film is visually stunning with vivid scenes of the Norwegian countryside and coast. The director also makes good use of some well placed and subtle special effects.
