New Jersey’s Mark Wise has a knack for creating unexpected and fruitful stylistic mash-ups. For the past five years, the experimental DJ and producer has been mixing Techno, Progressive House and Trance grooves into his own distinct genre-defying sound. Earlier this year he took his EDM vibe into the world of Rock & Roll with the release of the two track EP “Heavy Metal.”
Others have crossbred Electronic music and Metal before. Bands like Nine Inch Nails, White Zombie and Ministry pioneered the idea in the 1990’s. However, although it is true their music used the sounds of Heavy Metal, their songs were composed and structured like Techno and Industrial. In his new Techno/Metal hybrid, Mark Wise composes as both Rocker and as EDM producer. The result is a high-energy sound that goes hard into both worlds.
“Riff Machine” is the latest installment in the Mark Wise ‘Heavy Metal’ series. A hard Techno Metal jam, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 30, 2022. As the title suggests, the instrumental track is a high-octane combination of riff-heavy Rock and driving electronic beats. This is the soundtrack to the after hours party you don’t want to miss.
Power chords rise in the mix as the track builds from a Techno intro to a Heavy jam that pairs Pantera-style Groove Metal riffs with a Hard Industrial beat. Along the way we meet some seismic bass drops, a bit of Jazzy melodic nuance and a couple of breaks that would make Scott Ian proud.
