Sky Olson launched his professional solo recording career in 2021 with the 7-song EP Unsure Waters. The Static Dive readers have been following along since the beginning. That record and its successor the 8-song Hollow Walls introduced a talented singer and skilled songwriter. His soulful pop sound calls on multiple genres for inspiration.
The prolific native Chicagoan is a two-time winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He won further accolades as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Contest. Now based in Utah, in less than two years he has released a half dozen singles and two EPs.
“Oxygen” is the brand new single from Sky Olson, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 3, 2022. Intentionally fashioned in honor of the great protest songs of the 60’s and 70’s, the track pairs a great slow-funk groove with a solf-rock anthem for the 99%. Some very nice, What’s Goin’ On?-era Marvin Gaye-style harmonies back-up the cool passion of Sky’s lead vocal. It is a beautiful song with a powerful message.
The greed of the few seems to take priority over the needs of the many. But “Oxygen” is a rallying cry for us to take back our own power.
