Moon and Aries debuted in March of this year with the release of their album “The Arrival.” That record introduced the songwriting and recording duo of Canadian vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jordana Moon and German producer Tom Aries. For the past year the pair have been making music together despite being physically separated by the distance of an ocean and a couple of continents.
Each artist came to the project from successful solo careers. Jordana worked as a singer, songwriter and recording artist (as Jordana Kalenova). Tom has produced and composed music for computer games and films and also records as a solo electronic artist (as Galaxy of Night). With classical vocal technique and visionary production their sound brings to mind the work of similarly adventurous artists like Kate Bush, Björk and St. Vincent.
Citing a wide range of influences from Cole Porter to Kraftwerk, Moon and Aries create a vibe that is a unique mix of trip-hop, dark-pop and synthwave. The prolific performers return this month with the brand new EP “Paradise.” The 5-song collection was released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 23, 2022.
The record opens with the single “Take Me Home.” Pizzicato strings, percussive arpeggios and minor-key ambient synths ride a mellow, shuffling downtempo groove. Jordana steps to the mic with a dreamy meditation on love and longing. The track sets a chill tone that continues throughout.
From the low piano chords and percussive, shuffling downtempo groove of “In Silence” to the instrumental electronica of “Mercury,” the EP floats on hypnagogic waves. On “Angels and Demons,” classic 80’s synth and drum machine sounds paint an ominous background for Moon’s hypnotic lyrical mix of sex, religion, good and evil.
