Regular readers of The Static Dive first heard from Drifting Shadows in August of this year upon the release of their debut single “Loner“. That track introduced an emerging independent American band on a mission. They make emotional alternative rock/pop songs that give voice to the underrepresented and underprivileged in our society.
Since their debut, the prolific group has hit the ground running. Releasing new music via their YouTube channel, they already have their sophomore release published with another video on the way at the end of the month. The band plans to release their debut album Valley of Deceit later this year.
“Do You See?” is the brand new single & video from Drifting Shadows, released worldwide via YouTube on August 25, 2022. The song is a powerful and heartbreaking examination of the unfortunate socio-economic realities of our modern society. Sitting alone at his piano, the singer takes a look at life as seen through very different perspectives.
Throughout the song, the narrator alternately assumes the disparate roles of homeless man and wealthy businessman. Each wonders if the other sees the struggles that he must bear. The homeless man wonders if he is seen at all as the businessman acknowledges that his own life has become so demanding that he feels powerless to change the inequities around him.
It is a moving piece, made even more so by the songwriter’s holistic approach. He paints a multidimensional portrait that forces us to look at the subject matter from all sides.
