Depression, Baby are an emerging indie UK quintet. The North London band made their professional recording debut in 2018 with the single “Daydreamin”. That song introduced an eclectic group with a sound that draws inspiration from decades of pop, rock and alternative music.
The group continued to find fans around the world with a string of successful singles, like “Something in the Way” and “Home again”. Throughout the pandemic they live streamed and published homemade music videos whilst writing new material. Now they’re back on stage and in the studio. They have a newly signed deal with Marshall Live Agency in hand and two brand new singles.
“Will Comply” was the first new single to drop, released worldwide on July 15, 2022 via all major streaming services. With its rhythmic lyrical poetry, infectious pop melody and plenty of darkwave melancholy, the sound brings to mind that of iconic 80’s UK band Echo and the Bunnymen. It’s a fun listen, recorded live in the studio with an accompanying video (below).
The single “Out of Luck” followed on September 16, 2022. Depression, Baby takes a darker turn with a 90’s alternative vibe in the verse. The mood lightens in the chorus and the tune takes a cruise down the PCH for a breezy Laurel Canyon pop groove. It’s a cool transition. The song alternates between the two moods while the singer delivers an esoteric rumination on relationship, family and mental health issues in a cool and casual pop tenor.
Check out the very cool live performance video of “Will Comply” below. You can also hear both songs on the Deep Indie Dive playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service.
