Andrea Pizzo and the Purple Mice first appeared on these pages two years ago upon the release of their EP Excerpt from Potatoes on Mars. That record introduced an exciting new genre-fluid experimental rock group from Italy. Formed in 2019 by married couple Andrea Pizzo and Raffaella Turbino, the group is built around the pair’s mutual love of all this science and space.
The band followed that debut with a series of singles, culminating in the January 2022 release of their debut concept album Potatoes on Mars. Musically their sound combines elements of classic rock, art rock and alternative. Pizzo and Turbino are joined by fellow Purple Mice, multi-instrumentalist musicians Riccardo Morello and Roberto Tiranti.
“Ada” is the brand new single from Andrea Pizzo and the Purple Mice, released worldwide via all major streaming services on October 26, 2022. The dreamy alt-pop/rock tune is a modern indie scene painted with jazz hues and broad strokes of breezy 70s electric piano. The band sets a cool vibe as Raffaella Turbino delivers a pop meditation on art, science and the unknown.
The single is accompanied by the B-side “The Boys From Silicon Valley”. The track rides on a cool funk groove. Trippy analog synths and a blues-infused prog-rock guitar create an experimental art-rock vibe, particularly in the track’s climactic art-rock bridge.
