We first heard from Majestic Madness in September upon the release of his single “O-Town” That track introduced readers of The Static Dive to emerging independent rapper, singer, songwriter and producer Marquise Bryant. The Orlando, Florida native specializes in dreamy downtempo hip-hop and r&b.
For more than a decade Bryant made a name for himself as a go-to engineer and producer for artists all over his hometown’s hopping music scene. After years of SoundCloud releases, Majestic Madness made his professional debut in 2019 with the album The Excerpts. Since then the prolific producer has dropped a steady string of singles and EPs.
On October 30, 2022 Majestic Madness dropped his brand new eponymous 5 song EP, released worldwide via all major streaming services. The record finds the singer digging deep emotionally and musically. He further refines his signature psychedelic trap sound, while also expanding those vibes into new musical territory.
“Tied Up” opens the record with a melancholy slow jam in which the singer riffs on issues of loneliness and mental health. “O-Town” follows with a trippy shoutout to the singer’s hometown. On the track he adds a hypnotic monotone staccato rap to his ethereal vibe.
“Straight Forward” expands on that technique, adding melodic elements as MM drops syncopated bars over a downtempo hip-hop beat. The rapper barely pauses for a breath on the impressive chopper track. A dramatic minor-key piano introduces “Emotions” before the beat drops on a slow and low trap groove. On that track on the subsequent album closer “Pandora’s Box”, Majestic Madness introduces autotuned vocal harmonies to build on the hypnagogic theme.
