Todd Michael Chapman is a veteran singer, songwriter and guitarist who recently made his return to music after a years-long hiatus. Growing up in Western New York, with encouragement from his family he began playing guitar at 7 years old. By his teen years, Todd was singing in school, church and playing in local bar bands. He even got some local radio play.
The gigs continued through his twenties until Todd Michael Chapman’s day job took him to Phoenix, Arizona. Music took the backseat for a few years. He moved back home to Buffalo in 2006 and finally built a home studio. However, it wasn’t until the pandemic that Todd really had the time to get down to work on some new music.
Throughout all of his business travels Todd Michael Chapman continued to hone his chops. He picked up a harmonica along the way which introduced blues and country into his sound. He writes guitar-driven melodic rock inspired by the great AOR radio of the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. Regular readers of The Static Dive will remember his single “Jodi’s Pain” from September of this year.
“Now & Again” is the debut EP from Todd Michael Chapman, released worldwide via all major streaming services on December 9, 2022. The six-song collection is the perfect introduction to the singer’s rust-belt rock vibe. From the 80’s inspired, pop-infused guitar rock of tracks like the radio-ready “Love is Alright” to the rocking cover of Cliff Richards’ classic “Devil Woman”, the record is packed with infectious hooks and hot guitar riffs.
Lyrically, Todd Michael Chapman explores the ins-and-outs of love, loss, loneliness and connection. He juggles the insecurities inherent to new love on the escape fantasy “The One”. The powerfully emotional “Jodi’s Pain” chronicles the plight of a woman in an abusive relationship.
Todd lightens the mood for the quitting-time barn-burner “Happy Hour”. The party continues with the cool blues crawl of “Just Let it Go”. Throughout the record we are treated to smoking electric guitar and a top-notch rhythm section.
