Coolnushi is the brand new solo project from independent producer, Daniel Bustan. The Santa Cruz, California native first started making music a year ago. He launched the project with a series of experimental tracks on SoundCloud.
“Alone” is the debut single from Coolnushi. The artist’s first wide-distribution release, it dropped worldwide via all major streaming services on January 23, 2023. Mixing elements of hip-hop, hyperpop and EDM, the track takes us on a wild ride into uncertainty.
Retro drum machine percussion opens the track. Bustan steps to the mic and the beat drops on mid-tempo groove. The singer repeats the hypnotic mantra as overlapping breakbeats and industrial percussion gradually create a funky and wonderfully insane syncopated chaos.
As the piece progresses we transition through alternating states of confusion. If you thought you knew where you were when the song started, you will be far less certain at its conclusion. It’s a lot of fun.
