Sabet and Doherty is the professional name of the songwriting team, Steven Sabet and Brian Doherty. The New York City musicians first met as side musicians in another band. The two friends began their collaboration a few years ago when Brian set up a home studio and asked Sabet to send him some tracks. A songwriting team was born.
They made their professional recording debut in 2020 with an eponymous five song EP. That record introduced a talented duo with keen pop sensibilities and an infectious, guitar and vocal-driven sound. Sabet and Douherty each bring an impressive music industry pedigree to the mix.
Brian has played drums for They Might Be Giants, Freedy Johnston, and Ben Folds. Steven played guitar in bands like Darby Jones and MORE, and now holds the title of Concert Master in the NJ Guitar Orchestra. When they’re not rocking, they’re teaching. By day, both are music educators, Sabet in New Jersey and Doherty in New York.
“The Secret” is the brand new four-track EP from Sabet and Doherty, released worldwide via all major streaming services on January 24, 2023. The record opens on the title track, an upbeat 80s-inspired pop/rock groove that recalls early alt-pop heroes Men at Work. They set a chill nostalgic scene with new wave guitars and classic analog synths.
The duo keeps the retro vibe alive on “You Will”. They inject a healthy dose of college rock and a bit of surf into the tune, with lush vocal and guitar harmonies. “At The Brink Of Dawn” shifts gears for a bluesy downtempo instrumental featuring some stellar guitar playing. Sabet and Doherty close the record with the modern indie-rock jam “DLMD” (don’t let me down).
