Zack Black’s Grungy New ‘Working Man Blues’

zack black

We first heard from Zack Black in August of last year upon the release of his debut single “Christina“. That soulful stomp introduced a veteran singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist with a raw bluesy vibe. In recent years, the East Coast native has called Portland, Oregon home.

Zack Black came to the blues through living them. He’s been on his own since the age of 16, when he was legally emancipated from foster care. He cut his teeth gigging around Philadelphia’s legendary music scene while taking art classes at Temple University. Now, by day the bluesman is a union card-carrying stagehand in Portland’s theater district.

“Working Man Blues’ ‘ is the brand new single from Zack Black, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 17, 2023. The track is a grungy and fiery cover of outlaw country icon Merle Haggard’s country/blues classic. Accompanied only by his Les Paul and a tambourine, on the mic Zack delivers his soulful take on this ‘everyman’ ballad in a tone that lands somewhere between Johnny Cash and Tom Waits. The track was recorded in one take with no overdubs during a TikTok live stream.
