We first heard from The Drood in May of 2022, upon the release of their single and video, “Psychic Institute“. That psychedelic dark wave tune introduced The Static Dive readers to the songwriting and production team of Nathan Jamiel (vocals, guitar, bass, keys) and Daniel Watts (drums, keys). The Denver-based experimental rock duo have been bending genres into trippy spaces since 2012, and dropped their eponymous debut album in 2016.
The Drood’s catalog now includes two full length albums, a number of singles and videos. They have headlined at amphitheater shows and opened for a-list artists. Their musically adventurous nature has found the band exploring the far corners of rock and electronic music to create a distinct experimental sound that is equally organic and electronic.
“hallow” is the latest single by The Drood, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 7, 2023. Daniel Watts’ live, jazz-infused groove introduces the track. That breakbeat is the funky pulse of this trip-hop jam. With elements of glitch, alternative and classic rock the band creates a hypnotic psychedelic vibe. On the mic Nathan Jamiel channels a poetic energy that is born of equal parts Thom Yorke and Jim Morrison.
As with The Drood’s previous releases, “hallow” is accompanied by a fabulously trippy video. Check it out below. You can also hear the song on the Deep Indie Dive playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service. Follow the links below to connect with the band.
