Boston’s Munk Duane is back with his first single of 2023. Regular readers of The Static Dive know him well. We have followed the East Coast soul man’s musical journey since the release of his 2020 Prince homage, “Sweet Tooth“.
An award-winning singer, songwriter, performer and composer, Munk Duane is a multitalented creator. In addition to his frequent solo commercial releases, the prolific producer is a successful composer of music for film and television. When he’s not creating genre-fluid magic in his Bad Stella Studios, you can often find Munk tearing up Beantown stages with his band.
“My Fellow Americans” is the brand new single from Munk Duane, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 14, 2023. The track opens on a laid-back neo-soul groove. On the mic , Munk offers a simple plea to his countrymen and women. With the backdrop of political strife and violence in the headlines he sings “We don’t need the trouble, we don’t need the pain.”
Soon the beat drops and Munk Duane once again conjures the spirit of the Purple One for a fabulous funk jam. Bass, keys and guitar ride a killer mid-tempo groove as Munk calls on us to “get up and get tough”. A bit of Tijuana brass and some honky-tonk piano riffs add to the funk. It’s a great jam with a deadly serious message about the dire direction of our troubled nation.
