We first heard from FunkVoyage back in 2021 upon the release of their single “Falling in Love On the Dance Floor”. That track introduced The Static Dive readers to the grooviest branch of CoolNerd media. The New York City based multimedia firm is the brainchild of producer, composer and entrepreneur Mark ‘CoolNerd’ Unthank. The project has dropped a dozen funk jams since their 2020 debut.
Cool Nerd Media creates audio, video and and tech content ranging from streaming point-of-sale systems to promotional films and original music performance and production. FunkVoyage is Unthank’s passion project, existing solely for the sake of the groove. The multifaceted producer works with a roster of virtuosic talent to bring his vision to life.
“Better Ask Somebody” is the brand new single from FunkVoyage, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 23, 2023. As the track opens, live bass and guitar lay down a syncopated funk groove over a chilled disco beat. Synths, strings, and dreamy backing vocals paint the edges of the mix. On the mic, vocalist Antonia Marquee delivers a soulful and sexy self-affirming testimony to her own badness.
