We first heard from Mute in June upon the release of the debut single “Like I’m a Billionaire“. That inspirational pop ballad introduced songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer Ross Martin. After working for years as a session musician and supporting band member, Martin put aside self-doubt and launched his new solo project.
Working alone in his studio, the UK musician writes and records all of the tracks for his songs on his own. However, not satisfied with his own singing voice, he hires other professional vocalists to re-record the tracks, hence rendering his voice mute. His debut single has already connected with fans globally, reaching over 32K streams on Spotify in its first month.
“Drummer Boy” is the brand new single from Mute, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 7, 2023. An acoustic guitar, piano, ambient synths, and muted percussion open the track as the singer steps to the mic. He offers an inspiring tale of a young boy obsessed with playing the drums. He sticks with music, despite the naysayers, and lives a happy and fulfilling musical life. As the song progresses, the track builds to a funky syncopated percussive groove as electronic and acoustic arpeggios spin on the periphery.
