Preston Defa’s New SLC Indie Americana

Preston Defa first appeared on these pages in April of last year, upon the release of his single “Stone Cold Killer”. That track introduced The Static Dive readers to an emerging independent singer/songwriter with a quick wit and a unique indie-Americana sound. The prolific song man has dropped a string of genre-defying singles since his 2021 solo debut.

Based in Salt Lake City, Preston Defa has built a reputation as a clever and quirky songwriter who tells personal anecdotes of life in the heartland. From torch songs like “Misunderstood” to lighthearted country nostalgia of “Marlboro Man”, his songs are lo-fi Americana slices of life.

Other Preston Defa singles include “Beers Gone Wild”, a fun country/hip-hop groove about a perfect summer day with friends.  On “Loving Through Doomsday ” and the clever “Ghosted You”, Preston turns his lo-fi twang towards matters of the heart. As suggested by the title, the pop-infused country tune “My Baby Likes to Swing” is a ballad for those who appreciate an alternative lifestyle.

“Entropy” is the brand new single from Preston Defa, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 27, 2024. A solo acoustic guitar opens the track with a pop chord progression before the drops on a mellow country/rock groove. On the mic, the singer laments the painful end of a relationship.
