Nathan Yates’ Cinematic New Electro-Pop Heat

Nathan Yates

Nathan Yates is a veteran singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist producer based in New York City. Regular readers will remember him from his 2021 LP Outros, as well as his holiday Pinecone Rockets collab with Cat Greenfield. He is an eclectic musician with frequent forays into pop, jazz, and Americana.

An avid film fan, Nathan Yates declares a particular affinity for the 1995 Michael Mann-produced Pacino/DeNiro crime drama Heat. In fact he likes the movie so much he wrote a song about it, after watching it for the 7th time. However, the track was almost lost to history.

"I forgot I wrote the song until I recently listened to the Ringer’s Rewatchables podcast on the movie. I revisited the lyrics and decided it was time to release this homage."

“Heat (Regular Type Life)” is the brand new single from Nathan Yates, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 5, 2024. The track opens on an electric guitar riding an uptempo drum machine beat. Synthwave arpeggios spin on the edges of the mix as the singer steps to the mic with an dramatic narrative over urgent retro electro-pop groove that mirrors the intensity of the song’s namesake flick.
