We first heard from Cloak The Scribe back in May 2022. That introduced The Static Dive readers to a veteran Chicago rapper Greg James. He’s a lyrical emcee with a sound born on the streets of his hometown.
After dropping his debut single in 2016, Cloak the Scribe has continued to produce a string of popular singles and albums. He has made a name for himself as a hard-hitting rapper and quick-witted lyricist with an old-school lean inspired by the legendary Tupac Shakur
“Man, Listen” is the lead single from Cloak’s forthcoming concept album “No Sleep Till Success”. The song was released to Bandcamp on October 8, 2024. A sampled horn section opens the track with a minor-key riff, creating a noir cinematic vibe as the beat lands on a lo-fi hip-hop groove paired with subterranean bass tones. On the Mic, Cloak the Scribe and guest rapper Sinatris trade verses in an old-school braggadocio freestyle full of battle rhymes and clever wordplay.
