I curate two Spotify playlists. When I update them I write short two-line reviews here. Sometimes the reviews are three lines. The rules are not strict.
Today, it is all about the chill. All songs added to the Deep Indie Chill Playlist.
Artist: Purrple Cat
Track: I Can’t Breathe
Location: “help, i’m trapped inside a cat’s body”
This is the second time Purrple Cat has made an appearance on the Chill playlist. I’ve become a fan. I really enjoy the vibe he/she/they have created, musically and visually. “I Can’t Breathe” is a good representation of what I’m talking about; a mellow hip-hop beat, chill synth pad, some nice piano, and cool cover art.
Artist: Ric Mills
Track: Ubi Es
Location: Sydney, Australia
This is my favorite piece from Ric’s full solo-piano album “Profoundly Piano”. You can read the entire review here. Ric is an exceptionally talented composer and pianist and I definitely recommend you listen to the whole record. This track sticks to my brain. After the record came out I told Ric this one sounded like Thelonius Monk playing classical. That’s a good thing to sound like.
Track: No Shuffle
Location: Los Angeles, CA
The juxtaposition of an old sampled violin riff against futuristic beats and synths caught my ear and got me listening to a bunch of NAIVE’s other tracks. Great stuff, check him out.
I’ll round out this hump-day post with a simple lo-fi track from Italy’s Meisterbeats. “Chiara” is an excellent example of Chillhop and fit perfectly with the mood of the day. a Lo-Fi beat, a piano loop, and a good vibe. Dig?
