Independent Pop songstress, Nikitaa is back with her fourth single for 2020. Regular readers of The Static Dive are well acquainted with the Los Angeles-based singer. In recent months we have featured the talented Indian/American artist twice, upon the release of her singles “Clutch” and “Goddess.” Each delivers a message of female empowerment and combines her keen Western Pop sensibilities with traditional Eastern instrumentation and arrangement.
“Universe” is Nikitaa’s latest single, and this time she has gone a slightly different direction thematically. Her signature mix of cross-cultural musical styles remains very much intact. The track blends a funky guitar riff with Hip-hop beats, Pop hooks and syncopated ancillary rhythms. And of course, the singer’s soulful and pristinely Pop vocals are on full display.
However, the singer delves into new lyrical territory on “Universe.” She uses galactic metaphors and celestial symbolism to paint a portrait of new love and all of the exciting uncertainty that comes with it. The song also represents Nikitaa’s first high-profile collaboration.
This is going to be my first love song. I’ve never released one of those before! Universe has a special place in my heart. I got to write this one with Ash King, which was so much fun.
