Doddi is a multi-talented musician and radio personality from Iceland who has appeared on The Static Dive a number of times over the past two years. In that time the prolific artist (as both ‘Doddi’ and his alter-ego ‘Love Guru’) has released a series of singles and albums exploring decades of Pop and Dance music, from the early 2000’s EDM of “Blossi ’19” to the authentic 1970’s groove of “Desire.”
“Electro Love” is the latest single and video from Doddi, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 26, 2021. This time the visionary producer is transporting us back in time to the fabulous neon glow of the 1980’s. The Sci-Fi love song is a sort-of Romeo & Juliet allegory for the Terminator age. It’s 1984 and the robots have taken over. However, rather than fight for humanity’s freedom, our hero has embraced the cybernetic overlords and fallen in love with one of his robotic masters. Through the course of the song he professes his devotion and even plots his own subjugation of the human race.
The retro-futuristic romance is set to a period perfect drum machine rhythm and pulsing synth bass groove. The track’s video completes the illusion. Looking like a blue haired Robert Smith of The Cure, Doddi and back-up singers AldÃs and Rachel Wish act out scenes of melodramatic blue screen action. Amid layers of over the top makeup and some wonderfully wacky choreography, Doddi sings, “I wanna play with the megabytes in your heart.” The short film is a perfect escape to a simpler time of deep foundations, deeper eye shadow and gravity defying hairspray.
