Cam Rostami is a singer, songwriter, music producer, actor and filmmaker from Hollywood, California. Since 2018 the multi-talented creator has dropped a dozen singles and two albums of quirky, creative experimental music. Regular readers of The Static Dive will remember his recent single “Kids Get Paid” and last year’s “You Got This.” Those tracks introduced us to an artist with a sound that marries the Proto-punk and Classic Alternative Rock of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s with the borderless freedom of modern Indie-Pop.
“Really Bad Dreams” is the latest single from Cam Rostami, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 25, 2021. On the track Cam continues his experiment, blending multiple styles of Rock and Electronic genres with catchy, sing-song melodies. The track opens on a mix of electric guitar and grungy synths for a sound that lands somewhere between Echo & The Bunnymen and Skrillex. That vibe continues and is reinforced when the beat drops.
The song’s deep EDM drums and Glitch bass add to the hypnagogic theme of the title. That trippy Alt/Electronic vibe maintains as Cam Rostami enters the mix with a lyrical narrative about intrusive dreams and intrusive thoughts. It’s a cryptic and esoteric tale with a rolling melody that wraps itself around your head and includes some great bits of Emo nihilism like, “Can you wipe the ink before it dries?”
