Regular readers of The Static Dive have followed the ever-evolving career of teen singing star W!G over the past two years. Also known as Katrina Kusa, the young artist is a musician, actor and author who has found significant success in all three arenas.
Fame provides tremendous benefits to the lucky few able to achieve it. However, the excitement and glamour of a life in entertainment often walks hand-in-hand with loneliness, isolation and insecurity. Even the most well adjusted adults often find it difficult to reconcile their real lives with the public persona they have created. For child stars, the hurdles can be doubly high.
Katrina debuted as W!G in October of 2021 with the song “Candy Land.” Set to a mellow Pop/Hip-hop beat the track looked at the struggles young people face as they enter adulthood. On her latest single, the singer digs deeper and goes darker.
“Escape Room” is the brand new single from W!G, released worldwide to all major streaming services on January 21, 2022. Over a minimalist, Lo-fi beat the singer tells of feeling lost and alone in a world that expects too much of her. Accompanied only by her own backing vocal harmonies and swirling ambient synths, she delivers an honest and vulnerable performance.
Escape Room is a little darker and I think the listeners will feel that in both the production and the lyrics
