Levandé Drops Clever New ‘Bananas’

Levandé

We first heard from Levandé back in 2020 upon the release of his sophomore solo EP Extension and the single “Thank Yah“. That track introduced readers of The Static Dive to independent alternative LGBTQ+ singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer Kevin Levandé. A live EP followed, and then last year we heard the disco-fueled alt-pop “Dream“.

Born in the Netherlands to Congolese parents, Levandé is now based in Belgium. The eclectic international talent has built an impressive catalog of genre-bending pop, soul, and world music in the four years since his debut. He is currently in production on his fourth EP, due to be released in the summer of 2023.

“Bananas’ ‘ is the brand new single from Levandé, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 7, 2023. The song is his first new music of the year, and our first look at the forthcoming EP. As the track opens, Kevin steps to the mic to offer his testimony against receiving the unwanted oblong fruit of the title.

Soulful dance-pop piano chords and lush layers of backing vocals paint the edges of the mix. Soon the beat drops on a trap-infused lo-fi hip-hop groove as the singer skillfully turns the light-hearted alt-pop song into a clever commentary on the practice of sending unsolicited nudes.

Check out “Bananas” below. You can also hear the song on both the Deep Indie Dive and Deep Indie Beat playlists., or listen on your favorite streaming service.
