We first heard from Mike Freund way back in 2020 upon the release of his single “Dust”. That record introduced a veteran singer-songwriter and world-class blues-rock guitarist. Regular readers will also remember Mike’s 2021 single “Crooked Teeth”, and last year’s full-length LP Twenty Twenty’.
Originally from South Jersey, Mike Freund cut his teeth in the great music city of Philadelphia. He eventually migrated to South Carolina and for years has been a staple of Charleston’s equally hopping scene. In 2015, the multi-talented musician dropped his debut album, expanding his reputation far beyond the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.
“Rectify” is the brand new single from Mike Freund, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 26, 2023. The track opens with some Jon Lord-worthy organ grunge before the band drops the hammer on a massive fuzz-soaked swamp-rock groove. Mike Freund steps to the mic with all the authority of a fire-and-brimstone revivalist preacher, and delivers an epic tale of pride, betrayal, and restitution. Meanwhile, he and his killer rhythm section lay down a slow-rolling-rager with all the thunder of Leslie West’s Mountain and the virtuosic abandon of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsy’s.
