Mute’s New Oceanic Indie-Pop Groove

Regular readers of The Static Dive will remember Mute from his previous singles “Drummer Boy” and “Like I’m a Billionaire“. They were the inaugural solo releases from Ross Martin, a seasoned songwriter from the UK with a unique approach to music production. After years of working behind the scenes for other artists, he decided it was time to strike out on his own.

By his own estimation, Ross’ only hurdle was his voice. Unsatisfied with own vocal abilities, the songwriter sought out session singers to be his voice. Hence the name Mute. In the few short months since his debut, the prolific Mr. Martin has released four singles connected with over fifty thousand fans around the world.

“Into the Ocean I Go” is the brand new single from Mute, released worldwide via all major streaming services on December 15, 2023. The track opens on a funky acoustic guitar and electric piano indie-pop groove. On the mic, in a smooth pop tenor a male vocalist sings a catchy tune about the healing power of the Earth’s oceans. By the second verse live drums and a brass ensemble enter the mix, adding a groovy New Orleans vibe to the tune.
