International recording duo Moon & Aries are back with their third full length LP. Regular readers of The Static Dive know the group well. We have followed them since the beginning, when they dropped their debut album The Arrival in 2022. Their sophomore LP Break the Matrix followed in 2023.
Moon and Aries is a collaborative musical project from German producer/composer Tom Aries and Canadian singer-songwriter, Jordana Moon. The prolific pair has spent the last three years crafting their own unique take on downtempo electronic music. Their sound blends classic trip-hop moods with modern EDM and electronic pop.
Transcendence is the brand new album from Moon and Aries, released worldwide via all major streaming services on September 6, 2024. The twelve-song set finds Tom and Jordana at the top of their game, exploring the many nuances of the sonic world they have created, while also expanding the scope of that scene. Throughout the record they mix a feast of new flavors into their groove recipe.
From the sparkling arpeggios and driving beat of “FireNight” to the somber melancholy of the piano instrumental “The Affirmation Journey”, Transcendence is an aptly titled experience. The record both solidifies Moon and Aries’ foundational mellow vibe while also exploring far beyond any perceived boundaries. Throughout the record, Jordana meets Tom’s groovy explorations with smooth and soulful tones, hypnotic melodies, and ethereal visual poetry.
Deep house and disco beats meet strings and koto melodies on “Diamond League”. Moon and Aries add some dark pop drama to that sound on tracks like “Blurred Vision” and the jazzy “Nothing to Lose”. “Traffic” dives deeper into the jazz with an upright bass, saxophone, and some serious noir vibes.
Moon’s distinctive trip-hop style and Aries’ sultry vocals are the pillars of the group’s music. Tracks like “Slow Motion” and “Don’t Feed the Demons” add some funky syncopated rhythms to that groove. Transcendence is the sound of two deeply talented musicians exploring the many nuances of their sound.
